Common genetic risk factors for conduct disorder and alcohol dependence.

چکیده
The association between retrospectively reported childhood conduct disorder (CD) and a history of alcohol dependence (AD) was examined in a sample of 2,682 male, female, and unlike-sex adult twin pairs. There was a strong association between CD and AD in both men (tetrachoric r = .34, odds ratio = 2.8) and women (tetrachoric r = .53, odds ratio = 9.9). Genetic factors accounted for most of the association between CD and AD liability in men and women, with the remainder of the association being due to nonshared individual-specific environmental factors. Genetic influences common to CD and AD accounted for 17% and 35% of the genetic variation in AD liability in men and women, respectively, and accounted for 11% and 23% of the total variation in AD liability in men and women, respectively. The results suggest that there are common genetic risk factors for CD and AD or that CD itself is an important genetically influenced risk factor for AD.

The structure of genetic and environmental risk factors for common psychiatric and substance use disorders in men and women.
BACKGROUND Patterns of comorbidity suggest that the common psychiatric and substance use syndromes may be divisible into 2 broad groups of internalizing and externalizing disorders. We do not know how genetic and environmental risk factors contribute to this pattern of comorbidity or whether the etiologic structure of these groups differ in men and women. METHODS Lifetime diagnoses for 10 psy...
متن کاملPaternal alcoholism and offspring conduct disorder: evidence for the 'common genes' hypothesis.
Not only are alcoholism and externalizing disorders frequently comorbid, they often co-occur in families across generations; for example, paternal alcoholism predicts offspring conduct disorder just as it does offspring alcoholism. To clarify this relationship, the current study examined the 'common genes' hypothesis utilizing a children-of-twins research design. Participants were male monozygo...

BACKGROUND Conduct disorder (CD), alcohol dependence (AD), and illicit drug dependence (IDD) frequently co-occur. This paper describes the result of an investigation of the extent to which comorbid alcohol and illicit drug dependence in adolescents are explained by etiological factors in common with conduct disorder. METHODS Participants were 645 MZ twin pairs, 702 DZ twin pairs, 429 biologic...
متن کاملPersonality and the genetic risk for alcohol dependence.
The extent to which the genetic risk for alcohol dependence (AD) and conduct disorder (CD) and their common genetic risk overlap with genetic factors contributing to variation in dimensions of personality was examined in a study of 6,453 individuals from 3,383 adult male and female same-sex and unlike-sex twin pairs from the Australian Twin Registry. The associations between the personality dim...

Objective: To clarify the roles of genetic and environmental factors in the development of Conduct Disorder (CD) among offspring at high genetic and/or environmental risk for alcohol use disorders (AUDs). Method: Alcohol-related behaviors and psychiatric status were assessed in 1213 male twin members of the Vietnam Era Twin Registry (VETR), 1270 offspring, and 862 mothers of offspring. Through ...
